Stone House Art Gallery is pleased to present Low Hanging Fruit, a solo exhibition of new sculptures by Danni O’Brien. In this entirely three dimensional showcase, O’Brien reassembles formally functional tools and objects to provide new explorations about queer survivalism in a post dystopian society. Delicately balanced figures are composed of scavenged remnants from unknown origins and combined with membranous paper pulp in these playfully absurd new works. The literally and metaphorically “low” hanging fruit grapples with vulnerability and resistance in a conspicuously accessible throw-away culture. Through their spatial defiance, these works invoke an optimistic proclivity towards the future of queerness in an interdependent society.

Low Hanging Fruit is the final Charlotte-based exhibition at SHAG. Co-curators, Kilee and Brock will be relocating the space to Detroit, MI in the expectant future. Due to this relocation, we will not be hosting viewing appointments for the duration of this exhibition.

We hope that you will join us for a final farewell and closing reception for Low Hanging Fruit on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 6-9pm.
